18th century French school : Saint Nicholas resurrecting the three children after the butcher murdered them.

Our painting represents St Nicholas, Bishop of Myra in Minor Asia, with his mitre and cross, blessing the little children he just saved from salting.

The Legend of Saint Nicolas is very popular in the North East of France, but also in the Germanic countries and Central Europe. He is the character at the origin of Santa Claus. He is celebrated on December 6th with a large folklore.

Very good condition, the picture is clean.
