Gilt bronze (ormolu) statue of Ceres, rich jasper veneered base.

Ceres was the Latin goddess of agriculture, harvest and fertility, and also the allegory of summer. Our statuette was probably part of a 4 seasons table set. Today, you can make it a paperweight on a writing desk.

Very good quality, probably a late 18th century or early 19th century Italian work.

Very good condition, superb mercury gilt, no accident except small chips on the jasper veneer edge. Ceres probably held an ear of wheat in her hand that is missing. Beautiful, rare object.

Total height : 18cm
