Tall marble bust of Louise Brongniart after Houdon, late 19th century or early 20th century.

Famous French sculptor Houdon used to represent in pair busts of Louise (5 years) and his brother Alexander (7 years). Both terracotta portraits were presented at the 1777 Exhibition. They enjoyed great popularity, experienced multiple versions in marble and bronze and were reproduced in Sevres porcelain and terracotta. They remained in the Brongniart family until acquired by the Louvre Museum in 1898 for Louise, in 1900 for Alexander.

The sculpture of our bust is well executed, the features are delicate and well proportioned, the eyes are bright.

It is a tall (48cm high), very decorative piece.

It is in very good condition.
