Tall ormolu and white marble clock, sun-shaped ormolu pendulum. 18th century / Louis XV - Louis XVI production, circa 1770.
This model is called a la Turque in French. Turkish-taste fashion spread accross Europe between 16th and 18th century ; they have been the first signs of orientalist style, very appreciated during 18th century. They picture some idealised exotism. Most famous, high nobility figures used to be fond of this style, such as Madame de Pompadour, Queen Marie-Antoinette or Count of Artois.
The dial is signed Furet, clock maker for the King, one of the greatest 18th century ever knew. His clocks were innovating - he designed the very well known black-woman clock (one currently stands at the MET). Many of his work are standing in various European museums and in royal Spanich collections.
Very rare item to find, tall, very decorative clock.
In excellent condition, cleaned, mercury gilt is very fresh ; small enamel chips around the keyholes, complete, works perfectly. Original pendulum movement.
