Beautiful, large half-moon-shaped / semi circular chest of drawers / commode. Rosewood marquetry, ormolu decoration, grey marble.
Our piece was made in late 18th century - Louis XVI period circa 1780. J. Birckle signature and JME stamped.
Jacques Birckle (1734-1803), master in 1764, is one of the great French cabinetmakers of 18th century. He was one of the Crown suppliers (Queen Marie Antoinette, Madame Elisabeth, the Duke of Orleans and the Princess of Lamballe).
Beautiful finishes (green colored marquetry, trompe l'oeil effect on the flutings of its feet, finely chiseled ormolu elements). Half moon commodes are most refined models among Louis XVI productions. Ours is a large model, very elegant and in excellent condition.
Original marble, original bronzes, original gilt well preserved. No crack, no accident. New varnish. Superb piece of furniture.
