Empire mahogany & ormolu tripod pedestal table, France - Empire period - early 19th century circa 1805-1810.
Rich garniture of finely chiseled mercury gilt bronzes (ormolu).
Our piece is not stamped, but the perfection of proportions, the finish and the gilt bronzes are the mark of a great Parisian cabinetmaker, very probably Marcion (Pierre-Benoit Marcion (1769 - 1840) was, together with Jacob, the main supplier of Imperial Palaces and dignitaries of the Empire)
That type of table is a great classic of Empire period decoration, intended for use as a coffee or dining table. Ours belongs to the top-of-the-range category : large model (97cm in diameter), luxury materials (flamed Cuban mahogany, mercury gilt bronze = ormolu), carved marble with trapezoid profile, deep moldings.
It is in perfect condition, the varnish has been made as new by our cabinetmaker. It is clean and brilliant. No accident or lack.
