Antique French rosewood, amaranth and box tree marquetry commode / chest of drawers, 18th century production circa 1760.
Magnificent Louis XV design, beautiful flowers marquetry and refined gilt bronzes.
It has Pierre-Harry Mewesen mark stamped (and EN castle mark). Mewesen was a much talented cabinetmaker of Swedish origins. The production we well know is mainly Transition or Louis XVI, so this one is probably quite an early production in his career. Mewesen is one of the very exclusive club of cabinetmakers who participated in furnishing the members of the French royal family. His production is represented in various museums, such as the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum in Lisbon or Chaalis in the Jacquemart-André collection.
Every piece is original but the bottom central bronze that was replaced in the 19th century. Outstanding condition.
