18th century French school, portrait of a deceitful pious woman circa 1750, follower of Jean-Marc Nattier. The woman is wearing Franciscan clothes, making believe she is a very pious person, while holding a book where a romantic comedy can be identified.

Our large painting is set into beautiful a Louis XV style wood frame (19th century) gilt with gold leaf.

The set is in excellent condition.
