19th century French school, oil on mahogany panel in a beautiful gilt frame. Signature in the bottom right corner.

Our picture finely depicts the invasion of the Doge's Palace in Venice by the French troops, facing the Venetian aristocrats wearing silky clothes. The episode took place in 1797, during the Italy campaign led by General Bonaparte.

Very fine representation full of picturesque details (uniforms, soldiers resting and cooking).

Our painting is in excellent condition. The frame was cleaned by our gilder. Beautiful gold leaf gilt in excellent condition, without any lack.
