Rare set of 6 so-called a la Reine armchairs. Very finely sculpted high-end model with removable seat and backrest (the French call it siege or fauteuil a chassis) to be able to change the winter tapestry cover to a summer silk cover. This kind of seats was the most refined production in 18th century.
Early Louis XVI period production circa 1775-1780. 4 out of the 6 seats are stamped of Pierre Brizard.
Pierre Brizard became a master seat maker in 1772. He was a sculptor too and he used to make the sculptures on his productions himself. His sculptures were always very detailed and refined, just like our seats. The high-relief flowers on the backrests are all different from each other.
Very elegant production ; we had the removable cushions and backrests covered with one of the most beautiful silks manufactured by Tassinari & Chatel : a stunning green silk enhanced with gilt pineapple and artichoke patterns. The seats have probably be re-lacquered in the late 19th century / early 1900's.
Our set of seats is in excellent condition, very well preserved.
