Beautiful Empire ormolu mantel bar, mercury gilt bronze, early 19th century circa 1805-1810.
The Egyptian lionesses sitting on the bases are inspired by those from the Capitol in Roma. They were used a lot, on many Empire andirons produced by Claude Galle.
French Republic Mobilier National exposes a similar model (patinated bronze) in its collection coming from Tuileries palace.
Beautiful collector in good condition, ideal to complete an Empire period decoration. Mercury gilt is original, a little attenuated. Complete and functional.
