Empire sterling silver oil and vinegar set ; rare, beautiful late 18th century / early 19th century model decorated with winged sphinxes, typical Empire symbol used after Napoleon's campaign in Egypt, and grapes friezes. Circa 1800.
The two crystal bottles are brought after wards. One of them still has its original St Louis crystal manufacture paper sticker.
It has various stamps :
- French hallmark rooster 1st title (in use from 1798 to 1809 for .950 purity silver)
- Paris guarantee stamp
- French silversmith association (in use at the end of 18th century onwards)
- silversmith stamp JBN, not identified yet
It has been stamped various times afterwards too (Old Man hallmark, butterfly stamp in use between 1809 and 1838) are also there, as well as crab stamp in use after 1838.
The whole set is in good condition ; no lack, no chip on the crystal bottles.
